First Fly Tying Attempt

Well, we're coming up on the annual shad run in Washington, D.C., and I decided it was time to cross tying my own flies off the bucket list.
I purchased the Orvis Clearwater Fly-Tying Kit at the National Capitol Angling Show almost three years ago. And last year, I bought a bunch of flashy materials to try to tempt the Potomac shad.

Well, these are what I came up with. Luckily, shad don't hit off of imitation, they hit off of agression. So, thankfully, they won't be as picky as a seasoned brown trout would be with some bad wrappings. I don't think these really exist, but I'm going to call them Potomac shad Bugs.

With how warm it's been this year, I'm guessing the run will be early. I'll let you know how they work on the water.
