One lure, one cast, can sometimes equal two fish on that one cast.
That has happened a couple of times in the past week on W. Okoboji. New weed growth combined with spawn time temperature have created this fantastic bite. Nearly all of the bays are harboring big schools of roving whites. Casting #8 Rapala X-Raps retrieved in a herky jerky manner with brief pauses in between jerks is the key to getting strikes and not just follows.
Over on Spirit Lake the walleye bite is good to excellent.
Out in the basin both live bait rigs behind bottom bouncers and trolling #4 Flicker Shads on leadcore line are producing. The weeds are just coming up and walleye, smallmouth bass, and pike are all using these new weeds. Casting 4″ Berkley Power Minnows on 1/8th oz jig is favorite method of mine for these weed fish.
