First came New Jersey, then New York, and next, Maine?
The National Saltwater Angler Registry came into effect this year, with every angler needing a state license or to pay to register with the federal government before hitting the salt.
In order to keep anglers saltwater fishing for free, governments in New Jersey and New York are developing a registry that will comply with National Saltwater Angler Registry. And, an emergency bill has been introduced in Maine to remove the fee from their saltwater license.
The bill, introduced by Senator David Trahan, is currently in committee and supported by the Sportsmen's Alliance of Maine.
We'll keep you posted as this moves through the Maine legislature.
