Banned from fishing for Life (plus a $20,000 fine and a year in Jail)

Banned from fishing for Life (plus a $20,000 fine and a year in Jail) by GoFISHn TeamSan Francisco diver Qiong Wang, 32, just didn't know when to call it quits. Busted three times in three weeks for poaching carefully regulated abalone, the court threw the book at him: He'll spend a year in jail, pay a $20,000 fine, and face a lifetime fishing ban in California. Almost forgot, he is also forfeiting his vehicle and diving gear.

The LA Times story said Wang took 96 abalone in a 17 day period in February, when the season is closed. When the season is open, the annual limit is just 24. But the price of abalone is sky high, and if no one is looking…Wang made a bad bet.
