11-Year-Old Lands Record Snapper in Texas

Jayden Medina is a new Texas junior record holder, and he has his 11.03-pound mangrove snapper to thank.

Medina was fishing with his father, Tom Hearring, out of Tiki Island in Galveston, Texas, when the big fish hit his line.

“He was a really big fighter,” the 11-year-old Clear Lake angler said, according to Lonestar News. “I was like ‘aww, c’mon, oh, it’s coming up!’”

It took Medina and his father about 12 hours until they were able to find a certified scale to weigh the monster on, but once they did, they realized that he beat the standing record by just about two pounds. –Brian McClintock
