If you're out to break the Illinois state record for muskie, we can at least tell you where to start.
On Comiara Park's Evergreen Lake, high water levels will on occasion flood a spillway below the lake, and when that happens, state biologists will electroshock the spillway and rescue the fish, returning them to the lake.
That was the case this year, but when they did, they discovered two muskies that were more than 50 inches in length. "We've had 48-inchers before, but we've never had any that big," said McLean Country Parks and recreation director Mike Steffa, nothing they would likely best the state record.
The current Illinois state record for muskie is 38.5 pounds. In total, 66 muskies were rescued and returned to the lake, according to the website Pantagraph.com, including the two monsters.
So, if you're in Illinois, what are you waiting for?
