Has the most coveted saltwater world record of all time fallen? Nothing's for sure yet, but the angling world is buzzing with rumors surrounding the supposed catch.
As legend is solidifying, it would seem Al Stromski Greg Myerson caught an 81.88-pound striper in Connecticut. We won't try to parse fact from fiction for you yet, but we'll keep you up to date on the latest gossip, and you'll know as soon as anything becomes official.
Here's what we've heard so far:
Joe Cermele on Field & Stream heard a report Al Stromski Greg Myerson, who is rumored to have caught the 81.88-pound striper, is in the hospital after a panic attack. Joe also passed along a rumor that Stromski Myerson weighed the fish and fled the scene. Is the fish sitting in the cooler in a truck in a hospital parking lot? We don't know.
There's also the possibility that the fish is worth a million dollars. Mustad is running a promotion where a new all-tackle world record caught on a Mustad hook could win you $1,000,000.
The guys on the popular message board Stripers Online are speculating about every aspect of the catch. One poster says he can tell from the shadow lines that it's a photoshop job. Another says there are rumors that weights in the striper's stomach are what made it break the record.
Again, we don't know anything for sure, but we're scrambling to get you more details.
