The record for inland-caught chinook salmon for California has fallen again, but not to a new face.
Stan Kulak guided client Mike Elster to a record California salmon, an 8.14-pound chinook pulled out of Trinity Lake. The fish measured 26-plus inches and had a 15-inch girth. Elster is familiar with big salmon, he held the previous record, a 7.69-pound fish caught earlier in September.
The latest record was caught on a 4-inch, white, polka-dotted salmon spoon and took more than 10 minutes to land, according to My Outdoor Buddy. Congratulations to Mr. Elster. – Rick Bach
