Andy Spence was kind enough to take me
out for my first shad fishing trip back in April. We left from
Fletcher's Cove in rental rowboat and enjoyed the morning mist rising
off the river and herons floating by as we sought a good anchoring spot
just out of the main current. I cast upstream with my sinking line to
get a good deep drift before I stripped in the streamer against the
current. Predictably those shad were down deep, but in the course of
the morning I managed to catch a dozen or so hickories. I didn't
measure this guy, so it's just an estimate — not a world record
