It must be a good time to catch monster largemouths at Lake O' The Pines in Texas because just six days after a new record was posted, Marshall, Texas, resident Carl Clark broke that record hauling in a 15.13-pound monster.
Clark was using an XCalibur One Knocker lipless crankbait. This style of crankbaits has been growing in popularity the past few years. They definitely found a new fan in Clark.
From the story on Lurenet.com:
Clark was fishing in a smallish channel between an
island and a submerged island and his electronics were picking up a lot
of fish. He fished the area with a spinnerbait first and didn’t get a
strike, so he tried it again with the One Knocker.
“I fought that fish for 10 or 15 minutes before I ever
got to see her,” Clark said. “She never came up. After tiring out she
came up beside the boat close enough to get the net under her.”
Clark said he wasn’t doing anything special with the
retrieve when the big fish struck.
“I was just running it at a pretty quick pace, but not
burning it,” he said. “I like that One Knocker. It’s an awesome bait.”
