Austrians take their carp fishing seriously, and Roman Hanke may be the country’s new king of carp.
Hanke landed a 100-pound, 4-ounce carp at the Euro-Aqua Fishery in Hungary. The fish could take the world record as the biggest carp ever caught. According to The Independent, the standing record is from British roofer Ambrose Smith and John Bryan from Waltham Abbey with a 99-pound fish from Le Graviers Fishery in Dijon, France. None of the IGFA carp records exceed 90 pounds.
Hanke was using bridfood on June 5 when the 44-plus-inch carp hit. If this moves up the IGFA ranks, we’ll be sure to keep you updated. -Brian McClintock
