Catching a 36-inch pike is in of itself is an impressive feat. Doing it on a rod meant for panfish, with 10-pound-test line?, Now that’s something to brag about.
Elaine Supp caught this 36-inch monster on Oneida Lake recently, and the fish was too big to fit in the net or even the livewell. She got it on a Mepps Spinner, according to Syracuse. com.
Luck was on her side, apparently. She describes the catch:
“Luckily we had just put heavier line on 5 minutes earlier… I just had like 4-6lb test on it before and I lost a couple fish over the weekend while camping in the Adirondacks because they kept snapping the line.. so right before we headed up the Chittenango creek, we put 10-pound test on it.
“Heavier line,” might be an overstatement when you’re talking about pike of this size. – Rick Bach
