Lorenzo Magdaleno has been fishing the Florida Bass Federation and was a member of the Homestead Hawg Hunters for more than 10 years. His fishing career was tragically cut short on Friday, June 8, after a bolt of lightning apparently struck Magdaleno and his boat partner, Mike Hardin, on Lake Okeechobee.
Magdaleno and Hardin were fishing in Hardin’s boat on the final day of weigh-in of the TBF Southern Division Championship. There were some rogue storms moving through the area, but much of lake was unaffected at all by any bad weather. Unfortunately, a random bolt of lightening came down killing Magdaleno and knocking Hardin unconscious. Hardin was released from the hospital and is recovering, physically at least.
Reports from the official release are that all anglers have pledged any winnings from the tournament to Magdaleno’s family.
“This exemplifies what it means to be a member of the federation “family” and it makes me very proud,” said TBF National President, Robert Cartlidge.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Magdaleno’s family and fellow anglers. –Brian McClintock
