GoFISHn is in sunny Reno, Nevada for the International Fly Tackle Dealer show. As always, there are some big splashes in the fly fishing industry, and some awesome new products. Here’s a quick rundown from just a few of the things that have caught our eye so far.
The Helios 2 might be the talk of the show. While there are other new fly rods out here, improving on a rod that set the standard just three years ago is pretty impressive.
Umpqua, known for their flies, continues to expand on their tackle management system. This year, they’ve expanded their UPG line to add the Fly Badge, a slick little square that has some foam storage on one side and a magnetic area to allow your flies to dry.
Reddington continues to expand on their flashy products to appeal to a younger crowd. Tehy are stressing one-stop shopping. If Reddington doesn’t make it, you don’t need it. Their new Link rods and Rise reels expand their tackle division. Their Sonic-Pro Ultra Packable waders are perhaps the coolest pair of waders at the show, and their SubZero, neoprene-breathable hybrid waders are pretty cool too.
The other star of the show might be the inflatable drift boat, the Cold Water Drifter. It compresses down to an easy-to-ship, easy-to-store size, and is truly an innovation in the personal watercraft market.
Wading, outerwear and packs are all getting innovative twists at Patagonia. Their new 3-n-1 wading coat looks pretty slick, and their new stealth storage bag has some awesome features. One thing that really caught our eye is their aluminum bar system for their wading boots, which should improve upon the screw in studs for some great traction on rocky river beds.
