Massachusetts Record Carp Captured with a Crossbow

If you thought bowfishing was extreme, how about taking the crossbow out to the water?

Shane Felch, of Shrewsbury, Mass., was out fishing with his friend Devon DuBois, when he stuck a 46-pound, 5-ounce carp at Lake Quinsigamond. Felch was using a crossbow to capture some carp, which requires a special permit for hunting and fishing with that weapon in Massachusetts.

Felch and DuBois tag-teamed to get the fish in, with Felch working the reel and DuBois in charge of the boat.

“This fish dragged us all over the place – it’s only a little 14-foot john boat,” said DuBois, according to MassWildlife.com.

The duo only started bowfishing this past year, which they usually do at night in the shallows with the aid of a spotlight. Looks like their tactics payed off. -Brian McClintock

This isn’t the only record carp landed recently. The South Dakota record fell in April as well.
