Mayflies Hatch by the Millions, Make a Mess in Minnesota

It’s a flyfisherman’s paradise, but it’s causing some major problems in Hastings, Minnesota.

Millions of mayflies hatched off the Mississippi River in Hastings, but with the huge hatch comes a lot of dead bugs. So many, in fact, that people were using leaf blowers to get rid of the bugs. According to Orvis News, “normally weather patterns will disperse the hatch over a wide geographical area. This year that didn’t happen.”

No word on how the fishing was. –Brian McClintock
