When you’re looking for a fishing challenge in Minnesota, there aren’t many people who’d try to out fish Ron Schara, host of Minnesota Bound and a very popular figure in the outdoors industry.
But Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder doesn’t shy away from a fight. Ponder had a rough year on the field last year, with a 3-13 record, the rookie, Ponder, overtook the starting position from veteran Donovan McNabb, and enters this season as the Vikings’ leader. But, the man loves to fish.
Shara and Ponder took to the Zumbro River for a friendly fishing competition for KARE11. Shara took the early lead with some big pike on 4-pound test, but Ponder had a good showing, getting in the groove landing quite a few smallmouth. I would guess that Shara got the best of Ponder on the water.
“For me it’s just an escape. Football really now is a job, its a year-round job. To get out on the water and catch some fish, even if you dont catch a fish its still a great time to get out and get away from the stresses of football and life. I love it,” says Ponder.
