Odd-Looking Blind Snake Discovered in Brazilian River

Teenagers everywhere are going to be laughing about this one…okay most of us will be.

Engineers were draining the Madeira River in Rondonia, Brazil back in November when they found a pretty interesting looking creature, atretochoana eiselti. It took scientists until August 1 to properly classify the discovery, which, according to the Daily Mail, it is a rare creature which has only been spotted sporadically since first spotted in 1968.

Eiselti is actually more closely related to salamanders and newts, but because of it’s snake-like appearance, it is often mis-classified. Scientists are excited about the discovery, keeping two of the amphibians for studies. –Brian McClintock
