Every month, the International Game Fish Association announces recently caught pending world fishing records and slams. Here are their Hot Catches for August 2012. –Brian McClintock

- While fishing out of Dauphin Island, Alabama, on June 30, Alabama native Tyler Kennedy potentially tied the current All-Tackle record yellowedge grouper with a fish that weighed in at an impressive 46 pounds 2 ounces. Kennedy was soaking cut bait on the bottom, and needed 10 minutes to land his potential record fish.
- On June 22, Rick Mickelsen landed a potential All-Tackle Length record golden trout while fishing Golden Lake, Wyoming. Mickelsen, a native of Wyoming, was casting a nymph fly and needed 15 minutes to land the 21.26-inch trout.
- Japanese angler Satoru Nishimura was fishing off Kodomari, Japan on June 5 when he landed a 15-pound, 8-ounce madai on light tackle. Nishimura was casting a metal jig and skillfully played the fish for 40 minutes before landing the potential men’s 4-pound line class record.
- Junior angler Ali Pfleger of Newport Beach, California, was fishing with her father, Tom Pfleger, on June 22, when she landed a beautiful white seabass off Ventura, California. Weighing in at 38 pounds 9 ounces, Pfleger’s fish easily qualifies her for the Female Junior record.
- Sjon A. Harless of Mobile, Alabama, 2012 IGFA Female Saltwater angler of the year, landed another record fish during a recent stay in Costa Rica. Fishing out of Flamingo, Costa Rica on June 30, with Capt. Luis Ruiz, Harless landed a 61-pound, 11-ounce Pacific cubera snapper to qualify her for the potential women’s 130-pound line class record.
- Kimmo Manttari of Jyska, Finland landed an impressive 12-pound, 14-ounce zander on April 29, while fishing Laukaa, Finland. Manttari was casting a Storm Pro Shad soft plastic on a jig when the fish hit, and needed 10 minutes to land his potential 8-pound line class record.
- TJ Ponder of Encinitas, California, needed only 90 seconds to pull in a kelp (calico) bass after it hit the soft plastic swim bait he was casting. Ponder’s fish tipped the scales at 6 pounds, 4 ounces, and qualified him for the potential male Smallfry record. Ponder and his father where fishing out of Cedros Island, Mexico on June 25 with local guide, Jorge Gonzalez.
- Valerie D. Simpson landed this roosterfish on June 27, while fly fishing from the beaches of Cabo del Este, Mexico. Simpson was fishing with fellow Californian and guide Lance Peterson and needed 45 minutes to land her fish after it ate a custom Mona Lisa fly. Weighing in at 29 pounds, Simpson’s rooster qualifies her for the potential women’s 20-pound tippet class record.
- Aussie Simon Falkiner landed a potential All-Tackle record, 91-pound, 2-ounce butterfly kingfish, while fishing off Portland, Australia on May 31. Falkiner needed 20 minutes to boat the toothy critter after it nailed the Rapala Magnum plug he was trolling.
- Brazilian Romulo Patrick was fishing Barragem do las Janhao, Brazil on March 10 when he landed a 24-pound, 7-ounce pinima peacock, a potential All-Tackle record. Patrick was casting a plug under the watchful eye of local guide Gilmar when he boated the fish.
