When it comes to fishing in Islamorada, Fla., the name Bud-N-Mary’s comes straight to mind, as does amazing big game fishing. And April 25, 2012 now marks the best single day for sailfish ever for Bud-N-Mary’s.
According to Saltwater Sportsman, with conditions ideal, Capt. Scott Stanczyk caught, tagged, and released 47 sailfish in one day, besting the previous record, which was set at 24 releases back in 1944. On the Bud-N-Mary’s blog, Capt. S. Stanczyk wasn’t the only one with the great day. Two other boats tagged and released a total of 40 more sailfish, and quite a few sailfish.
“Usually every year for a few days we get “tailing” conditions off of Islamorada, where the sailfish and cobia tail down the waves, surfing into the current, down the waves. Today just so happened to be the greatest day of sailfishing out of BUD N MARY’S MARINA since 1944,” wrote Capt. Nick Stanczyk. “These days are few and far between, and only a few lucky charters may experience something like this in their lifetime.” –Brian McClintock
