Thousands of Fish Mysteriously Dying on Lake Erie

It is one of our country’s best fisheries, and something is killing thousands of fish that are washing up on the Canadian shores of Lake Erie.

According to the Christian Science Monitor, officials are puzzled about the death of tens of thousands of sheepshead and catfish, among other species.

Since there’s no evidence of a spill or pollution in the 25-mile stretch of shoreline between Windsor and London where the fish are washing up, Ministry officials are guessing that a process known as “inversion,” is the likely culprit. Inversion occurs when water cools quickly, changing oxygen levels, and potentially suffocating fish. – Rick Bach
