We were excited when Topps announced that Lefty Kreh was getting a fishing trading card. As one of the few people who still buys baseball cards, I was looking forward to tracking one down. But, in a pretty rare occurrence, Topps has screwed up.
The photo that Topps took to make the Lefty Kreh card featured him with fellow Baltimore, Maryland local, Capt. Norm Bartlett. Topps ended up taking both of their likenesses for the Lefty Kreh card. When Topps delivered the cards to Kreh for him to sign, he caught the mistake.
“I opened the package and looked at the first one and said, ‘This ain’t me,’ ” Kreh recalled saying to the courier, according to the Baltimore Sun. “She said, ‘It has to be you.’
“I said, ‘Look at this card of me and look at me,’” said Kreh, cackling at the memory. “It ain’t me.”
The mistake has collectors scrambling to buy some of these incorrect cards. And, Kreh has sent them a new picture for them to do his second card as. If we track either of them down, we’ll let you know.–Brian McClintock
