New Years Day Tarpon

Had a 1/2 day trip on New Years Day with a father, son and his friend from Quebec. It was a 2 boat trip and the plan was to stay close together and fish inshore for Trout, Redfish and Snook.

We fished the spoil islands early and managed a few Trout and ladyfish, but the bite was slow. So we headed to the Sebastian River and had a ball with the ladyfish until the boys tired of them.

Went outside Sebastian inlet and we found the mother load of tarpon. The bait was thick and the tarpon and Spinner Sharks were everywhere. We caught some bait which was tough with all of the Mackerel and Sharks, but we did manage a few good baits. First tarpon hookup was on a Mirrolure Lil Jon. The fish was around 100lbs and after a few jumps and a few long runs, he was gone. We jumped a few more fish and managed to get one to the boat before it was time to go in. We were bit off by Sharks 5 different times and had our baits hacked by Mackerel several times. We also had a lot of boat traffic and sightseeing anglers that kept pushing the tarpon down and moving them. Most were just trying to figure out what we were fishing for.

The boys from Quebec had a great time and went home with a Story to tell for sure!
