I can’t imagine a more perfect or underutilized fish… especially for the freshwater fly angler. Smallmouth bass inhabit nearly every piece of flowing water in the midwest. They are eager to eat a well-presented fly or lure and fight like no other.
My half-day and full-day smallmouth bass floats are for one or two people and are done on the Michigan and Indiana waters of St. Joseph River. All fishing is done from my 15′ Osprey drift boat. If you have never fished from a drift boat, it is a very unique, comfortable and enjoyable experience! I provide all fly and/or spinning gear, tackle, etc., or bring your own.
Bass are post-spawn and are eating nearly any crayfish imitation presented near the bottom — both on the banks and at the edges of the river channel. They are also taking poppers and other topwater presentations.
Smallmouth fishing will remain good through September. I have a variety of dates available for your smallmouth float, and am also be running muskie and largemouth trips. Call me at 219-728-8996 to book or if you have questions.
Good fishing to you!
