Specifically, Sitka [Alaska] black-tailed deer?
Imagine how surprised Capt Tom Satre and his sister, Sharon Kelly were when they saw four deer swimming toward their 62-ft charter vessel as they neared Taku Harbor, near Juneau, Alaska. They described what happened next as a "defining moment" in life. The four juveniles were clearly in trouble–running out of energy–and they decided to pull them aboard. When they go to the dock, the animals were warmed up and departed for the woods, although the biggest one took a bit longer. As you can read at JuneauEmpire.com, the deer may have been chased into the water by a wolf. Or maybe they were just exuberant (and dumb) teenagers.
