OK, that’s probably an exaggeration, but GW was a master angler, who even went fishing for perch and trout during breaks in the Continental Congress, according to George Washington Wired, a web site maintained by Mount Vernon. In his diaries he writes about catching dolphins and sharks in Barbados and catfish in Ohio. And in 1790, the Pennsylvania Packet newspaper wrote that he had been fishing near Sandy Hook, New Jersey:
“where he had been for the benefit of the sea air and to amuse himself in the delightful recreation of fishing. We are told he has had excellent sport, having himself caught a great number of sea-bass and black fish.”
