I went out to the Coralville Reservoir and Lake Macbride this afternoon to try my luck. The dam was extremely busy but the fishing was dead for everyone no matter what
bait or technique was used. I almost snagged a big
carp, but I wouldn't have really wanted that anyway.
After fishing that area for about an hour and a half, I moved to Angler's Point at Macbride and messed around with several methods before tying a white
spinnerbait to my
line and
casting near fallen trees. It took a while, but a slow, steady retrieve and perseverance paid off when this big guy surprised me.
The water was still really cold and even this
white bass was awfully lethargic. If you're planning a trip to Macbride, you might want to wait a while to let things heat up before you go out or you can get out there and work on your patience if nothing else. If you decide to give it a shot, keep it slow and simple for now until the water warms.
