A Good Year on the Susquehanna Flats

A Good Year on the Susquehanna Flats
This year the warm winter with no snowmelt up north allowed me to start guiding on the Susquehanna Flats in late March. The water temperature was 58.2 degrees on March 30th and 59.5 degrees on May 3rd, the last day of the catch and release season. It turned out to be the most productive year I have had ‘on the flats’, with the largest striper measuring in at 48″.A 5″ Half and Half Chartreuse/White Body was the most productive fly. There were a couple of fat striped bass over 30″ caught on this fly. When it came to fooling large stripers, the most productive lure was a 7″ Bass Assassin Albino Shad dipped in Spike-It Garlic Dip-N-Go.

The 48″ striped bass was caught on a Rapala Super Shad Rap SSR-14 GSH Gold Shiner Crankbait when cast along the shoreline below Locus Point. This fish was measured and released without being removed from the water. From now until early December I will be guiding full time on the Upper and Middle Chesapeake Bay. I will also be booking trips to set up your GPS/Sonar/Plotter unit so you won’t have to waste time fishing dead water.
I hope you will have time in your schedule to enjoy a day on the Chesapeake Bay fly, or light tackle fishing. If you plan to book a half-day trip, please let me know as early as possible. This year I need to schedule 2 half-day trips on the same day, when possible. If I can make this happen, both parties will receive a discount.
Tight Lines,
